10/15/16 - ADOPTION PENDING!!!

Buddy is an approximately 4 year old German shepherd dog. This poor guy has had a rough life. He came into foster care with us 1.5 years ago from a shelter in eastern Idaho as an emaciated, ill canine. We are happy to say that Buddy's medical situation has turned around...180 degrees! It has been a long journey for us, but well worth it for this most deserving dog.

Buddy has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We are finally at a point where it is controlled and Buddy is now off all his medications and is a vigorous, happy dog. His weight has gone from 56 pounds to 80 pounds. He is currently on a raw diet and does well on it.

Buddy rides well in the car and LOVES to go with you. In a way that's not common to the breed, he truly loves all humans, including strangers. If you are looking for a guard dog, this is not your boy. He would rather commune with humans than question their intent. He does not bark at strangers, but would rather meet them! **Potential therapy dog here.**

Buddy gets along with all female dogs and some male dogs, but not all. He is housetrained, crate trained and has never been destructive in his foster home.

We are hoping to find a home for Buddy where his people will be home with him most of the day. If you work from home or are a fairly active retired person, we would love to talk to you.

Buddy does not require a fenced yard. He can scale a 6 foot fence, but it's only to come and find you! When you leave home, Buddy needs to be safely indoors and accepts being crated, especially if you give him a treat to "kennel up".

Buddy has been through a basic obedience course and graduated! If you adopt Buddy and are local to the Boise area, you will be provided with a private class that will get you started on Buddy's training method. He does still pull on leash sometimes and needs to be reminded...a work in progress, but knows the basics.

Buddy's adoption fee is $200. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.

About Idaho Domestic Animal Welfare Group

About Our Rescue Group...

IDAWG, or the Idaho Domestic Animal Welfare Group, is a non profit 501(c)(3) corporation based in Nampa, Idaho. IDAWG has been in existence since June 2000 and is staffed entirely with volunteers. IDAWG supports southern Idaho animal shelters as needed, and also helps private citizens rehome their dogs. Sometimes this involves transporting or organizing transports for dogs or cats, or sometimes birds, to rescues or permanent homes in adjoining cities and states. IDAWG also offers financial assistance to senior citizens and others needing help paying for spay/neuter services for their companion animals.

Come Meet Our Pets...

IDAWG is located in Nampa, Idaho, about 25 miles west of Boise. IDAWG is not a facility open to the public. The dogs, cats, and rabbits are fostered at individuals' homes. Appointments must be made in advance and only after the application process has been completed.

Our Adoption Process...

Please let us know if there is a particular dog you are interested in adopting. We try to find the best match for you. When a dog is selected and your application is approved, this dog will be on hold while we have a home visit done.
A representative from IDAWG or a rescue group located in your area (any state) will come meet you in person to make sure your home is ready for your new companion dog to join your family.
Meet representative from IDAWG to pick up your wonderful new adopted canine.
IDAWG will be following up on your adoption, and you are always welcome to contact us anytime after the adoption with any behavior or training questions regarding your new dog. All updates and/or photos are greatly appreciated!
Please send all correspondence / inquiries by email first if possible. It is very hard to return phone calls until the weekend. And remember, we are an all volunteer ogranization and we have families, jobs and dogs of our own. Your patience and consideration is always appreciated.
