Weight: 7 lbs (underweight)

Personality: Friendly, sweet, affectionate, lap cat, low energy, playful, submissive

Observations with Dogs: Great with dogs, has been working as the shelter's dog tester

Observations with Cats: Good with cats, but is submissive, so should not be placed with a dominant cat

Observations with Kids: Not tested with kids, but would probably do best with no kids, or older kids

House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners

Location: DC area foster home

Rescued From: Pocahontas County, WV

Additional Information: Charlie is such a sweet boy, he just loves to get ear and face scratches,  and he loves to be brushed and petted and is happiest on his human's lap or close by. It appears that Charlie has suffered some past abuse, as he flinches when someone is about to pet him, but he just loves human affection so much that he's willing to deal with any consequences. Poor Charlie had a rough life and he deserves a safe home to call his own. We think Charlie would do best in a quiet home, where he is the only cat, or there is a non-dominant cat is residence. He is also good with dogs and can coexist nicely with a calm and quiet dog. This sweetheart has the saddest eyes. Don't you want to make him happy and give him a forever home?

If you are interested in meeting a cat, we require an adoption application. Visit to apply. If a cat has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon.

City Dogs Rescue is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our animals (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Our cat adoption fee is $150 unless noted. Prior to arrival, all of our cats are spayed/neutered (unless specified) and given shots for Rabies, FVRCP, and Feline leukemia. They are microchipped and tested for FIV and FeLV. They are dewormed at least twice and given a health check by the vet.

City Dogs Rescue is a rescue, not a shelter, and our dogs are located in temporary foster homes in the Washington, DC metro region.  Adoption fee, home visit, and application required. CDR charges an adoption fee of $395 unless specified. This fee typically includes health care provided before adoption: all age-appropriate rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention prior to adoption, spay/neuter procedure, microchip when available, SNAP test for parasites, initial health check vet visit when going from the municipal shelter to City Dogs Rescue, and pre-adoption health care for dogs over the age of 1 year as needed. For puppies too young for spay/neuter: The fee is the same but does not include the cost of spaying and neutering.

About City Dogs Rescue DC

About Our Rescue Group...

City Dogs Rescue was formed for one reason: to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited. We want to offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful pups as possible. Sadly, nearly all of the dogs that City Dogs Rescue takes in are just days and sometimes hours away from being euthanized, for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we can enrich lives - both human and canine. We are excited to embark on this journey, and we welcome your help in any capacity – through volunteering, fostering, adopting, and/or donating.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All our dogs are located in Washington, DC either in foster homes or at City Dogs. Please email us to schedule a visit!

Our Adoption Process...

1. Fill out an Adoption Application.
2. We will have a brief conversation with you to determine your needs and preferences, find out about your daily schedule, and talk about your previous experience, if any, with pets.
3. If applicable, we will call your veterinarian to ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well cared for. We may also call references listed on your application.
4. For renters, we’ll check with your landlord to ensure that dogs are permitted and that the dog that you’re adopting wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions.
5. We will visit your home to see the environment where the dog will live and answer any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity for you to get valuable input on how to integrate your new pet into your home.
6. Finally, we will enter into an adoption contract, and you will be required to pay an adoption fee which covers spay/neutering*, microchipping, vaccinations, and first initial vet visit.
7. Most importantly, enjoy life with your new companion!

* If you are adopting a puppy, depending on the age of the puppy she/he may not yet be spayed/neutered. In this case, you will be required to schedule an appointment for the spay/neuter procedure for your new companion and sign an agreement in which you agree to spay/neuter your pet within a certain number of days.
