Here's what the humans have to say about me:
10/15/16 - ADOPTION PENDING!!!
Joe was adopted as a puppy from a local shelter and his owners, who are senior citizens, have found Joe's exercise needs are more than they can provide.
He is now about 1 year of age, weighs approximately 46 pounds and stands about 20 inches; at the shoulder. We believe he is an Australian cattledog or border collie mix or possibly both. Joe is a very smart, fairly high energy dog and will need daily exercise and mental stimulation. Joe shows potential to be a great nosework or agility dog. Currently Joe is going for a couple of leash walks a day, but he really needs to run big every so often!
He has already been through a basic obedience class, although it was a method based on force. Some dogs survive that kind of training just fine, but Joe did not. He did not do well when choked and taken down to the ground for not complying, and wanted to defend himself. You can't blame him! The owner dropped out of the class, thank goodness. **Joe would benefit greatly from a new owner who understands training based on positive reinforcement.**
This dog loves to learn and is both toy and treat motivated. He loves to go for walks and explore, also enjoys going for car rides. Joe knows his basic obedience and also many tricks! He likes to play fetch and also a game his current owner calls "find it" where she hides treats for him and then sends him to locate them.
He is housetrained and crate trained, but has taken to digging in the yard out of boredom. He still jumps up on people and pulls on leash. He has been to the dog park and is good with people and other dogs, but when on leash is sometimes reactive to other dogs and bicycles. Joe has been around young children, but is a little too rambunctious for the tiny ones.
Joe is sponsored by the Idaho Domestic Animal Welfare Group and his adoption fee is $150. He is neutered, mocrochipped and up to date on vaccinations.
