Coopers Story

"My name is Cooper, I am looking for the perfect family to give me the care and love I need. My favourite thing is to cuddle on the couch or bed with people, especially if they are petting me all over. I am very affectionate towards people and enjoy getting all the attention. It would be ideal if I was the only pet in the house, but I do get along with most small dogs. My daily activities need to include lots of walks and car rides, as I love spending quality time with my family. I don’t look my age(11 years old) but in a couple of years I am looking to retire and start taking it easy.

Currently I am learning tricks and commands as my previous owners prevented me from having much human interaction. For the past 2 years I had been living in a basement with basic care while my owner was trying to handle their personal life (multiple deaths in the family). Only when my owner had to suddenly move my care became a priority. When I arrived at the Vet my entire body was covered with 2-3 inches of matting and desperately needed a groom. After being heavily sedated and all my fur clipped(could finally see that I am a Maltese), I felt much better and my personality began to appear. A technician at the clinic saw the sweet boy I am and knew I deserved to be happy and healthy. After being vaccinated, de-wormed, neutered and having full blood work I am ready to move on from the neglect and into a loving forever home. "

Cooper's adoption fee is $275. For an application for Cooper, go to Cooper is being fostered in Scarborough.

**applicants must be in a 2 hr driving range from Toronto/Niagara area as we do home visits ourselves with our dogs.

About Happy Tails Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Happy Tails Rescue is a 100% volunteer organization. When we accept a dog into our rescue, it immediately becomes part of a foster family where it is loved and nurtured back to a stable physical and/or mental state and only then will it be adopted to a fully screened, loving family or individual.
Happy Tails is a small rescue where we get to know and love our dogs individually. Foster homes are always much needed as it's so sad to have to turn down a dog in need due to not having a space for them :(

Our Adoption Process...

We get inquiries about dogs posted on our website at The adoption fees are posted on the individual dog's bio. If the initial inquiry sounds like a possible fit or the family sounds like they might offer a very good home for a specific dog or one as yet to be determined, we send out an application form. The completed application is reviewed to get a sense of whether the desires and life style of the family look like a good match for the dog in question. If they do seem to be a good match at that point, we follow up with a phone conversation and gather more information so that we and share information about the dog in more detail and find out what expectations the adopter may have for the dog that they want to adopt. If it still looks like a match, we check references and set up a home visit where the family meets the dog. If the chemistry is good we arrange to place the dog in the home for a two week trial period . If after the two weeks the dog and the family have connected and both sides feel that the dog is the right one for them , then the adoption is finalized and the adoption fee cheque is cashed so that we have funds to help the next dog in need.
