Hi! My name is Kay, and I'm adjusting to my new surroundings here at Animal Humane. It's a difficult task, because I am really shy. You'll probably find me hiding under my cat bed in my cubby. When I poke my head out to see my visitors, I look just like an adorable kitty-turtle! Though shy, I respond well to soft words and rubs and scratches on my head. I'm looking for kind, gentle humans with the patience to let me come out of my "shell." They will be rewarded with love and purrs once I'm comfortable, I promise!

About Animal Humane New Mexico

About Our Shelter...

Animal Humane is committed to being the leader in next-generation animal shelters. We have proactively developed a full range of programs and services dedicated to helping people connect with a lifelong companion and work with them to keep that relationship balanced and happy. That’s why we prefer terms such as campus, team and resident to differentiate ourselves from other facilities. No other shelter in New Mexico offers the extensive curriculum or goes to the lengths we do to make sure that our graduates are healthy and ready to thrive in their new forever homes. Facilitating lifelong animal + human bonds is why we’re here.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Requirements/Recommendations
•All animals that leave the shelter must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. NO EXCEPTIONS.
•If you have dogs and are looking to adopt a dog we ask that you bring your dog in to do a meet’n’greet. (This does not apply to cats!)
•We also recommend that all people in the household (including children) come in to meet the animal before adoption.
•We do not adopt out animals as gifts to others. Gift certificates for the price of an adoption can be purchased at the front adoptions building.
•Adopting animals is a lot of responsibility, but it is also a wonderful experience. We want to ensure that you pick an animal that truly matches your lifestyle, so we do ask that you arrive by 5:30 in order to really get to know your new family member. We will be happy to continue any adoption paperwork the following day.
