Amelia is not much of a guard dog - but she is very friendly! She loves to "talk" to her people, sometimes to encourage them to walk faster please, sometimes to tell them how her day is going. She loves to snuggle and play, and walks very well on a leash. She is asking you to please spring her from doggy jail and give her a fun family that she can be around all the time!
Cumberland County Animal Control does not charge an adoption fee or a rescue pull fee.
Adopters who reside in Cumberland or one of the neighboring counties (Powhatan, Amelia, Prince Edward, Buckingham, Fluvanna, and Goochland) must have the pet sterilized within 30 days of adoption. This is state law. Adopters outside of the area must arrange to have this done prior to the pet leaving the county. (We use Cumberland Animal Hospital.)
The shelter is located at 11 Range Road, Cumberland, VA 23040. The shelter is open from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday and by appointment. It is highly recommended that you make an appointment, because the shelter is not always manned during the week. The County only has one Animal Control Officer, and he is out in the field sometimes. The shelter's phone number is (804) 492-3076.
Act quickly to adopt Amelia - Kennel 12 (available 10/5). Pets at this Shelter may be held for only a short time.
