Say what?? You know my name? Woof, woof, woof… that makes me happy! How’d you know my name is Piper?! Did my friends here tell you that I knew my name? Ha! They are so nice. Did they also tell you I’m 2yrs old Lab mix and I’m already spayed? Life has been rough lately. First I was at my home and had puppies, which I adored and took care like any good mum would. Then my pups start disappearing and before I knew it I was also leaving home. They said this nice lady wanted to take care of me and give me the attention I needed. Guess what? I was only there for a few nights before the new lady brought me to the shelter. She said it wasn’t my fault. She said that she just didn’t have the money to get me vaccinated so her landlord would be happy. Well, I’ve said bye to my puppies and two different homes in the last couple of months. I will not let this discourage me though! I adore people and I know my forever home is out there, just looking for a Piper to make their family complete. Please help me find them. Tell your friends that Piper is a sweet and smart girl. I’m already housebroken, I like children, I know how to shake and give high fives. Oh, oh, oh also tell them, that I like to ride in the car! I can’t wait for all the new adventures with my family!

About Humane Society of Southern Illinois

About Our Shelter...

The Humane Society of Southern Illinois has been around for almost 60 years. We are mainly funded through donations and every little bit helps.

Our facility takes in approximately 5,000 animals yearly and we do the best we can to find homes for them.

In December, 2005 the Humane Society of Southern Illinois began an exciting new program to save pets from euthanasia.

We began working with several independent rescue coordinators to place adoptable animals in high quality "no kill" programs in the northern part of the state that would otherwise be euthanized.

As always, this would never have been possible without the kind and generous donations of our members and supporters. Please donate to help sustain this vital Life Saving program!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our shelter is located in between Carbondale and Murphysboro, Illinois just off of route 13. We are open every day except Tuesdays and holidays. Our hours are Monday through Saturday from 12:00 pm until 4:30 pm, Sunday from 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm, and closed Tuesdays and holidays.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoptions fees vary depending on what of companion animal you decide to adopt from us. Sometimes our shelter receives animals other than cats and dogs. It is not uncommon to find rabbits, guinea pigs, or ferrets seeking new homes.

Dogs: $200 Dogs over 6 years or special needs $150
Cats: $100 Cats over 6 years or special needs $80
Rabbits & Ferrets: $100
Others vary

All animals must be spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated before they can go home. If these procedures are not already done at the time of adoption, an appointment must be made and the cost of these procedures CAN be included in the cost of adoption under most circumstances which will be discussed at the time of adoption.

The potential adopter has to fill out a pre-adoption application before any adoption is finalized. The staff at our facility will go through the application with you to make sure your home is the best home possible for our shelter babies. Our first and foremost concern is for the happiness and welfare of the companion animals in our care.

For any other questions regarding the adoption process, please contact our shelter at 618 457 2362. We will try to answer any questions you may have.
