Meet Bubba!!!
This sweet gentleman is a Pug Mix who comes to us from the Roanoke, Va area.  He was surrendered to a humane society after living his whole life with his family.  His reason for surrender?...They were having a baby and didn't want a dog anymore.   This is such a sad story, but one we see far too often in rescue.  Bubba is a wonderful, adorable, well mannered sweet 8-9 year old boy, who LOVES children, adults, and other dogs and even likes cats!!!.  He lived with a cat in his former home, and considered the cat his buddy....they even slept together!!
Bubba was very nervous at the shelter, but they let him hang out in their office, and he quickly became a staff favorite.  Our wonderful MMR volunteer in the Roanoke, Va  area made sure that this boy was safe and fostered him until he was transported to the Maryland area for fostering and medical care.  A very special thanks goes to a new MMR adopter, who drove Bubba from Roanoke to this area when she picked up her own new fur baby!!
Bubba has received a dental and been brought up to date on his vaccines.  He is also neutered and heart worm negative.  He is on a monthly preventative and is doing great with all the recent changes in his life.  Bubba did have a rear leg issue which was X-rayed and diagnosed while he was under anesthesia for his dental.  The leg is not broken, but it appears he has an injured ligament.  The vets believe a brace will help this injury heal, and so he is currently wearing one.   MMR is prepared to do all we can to give him full use of this leg.  Bubba doesn't seem to be bothered by this issue, although he does not like to put weight on it when it is not in a brace. It doesn't slow this little guy down, and we are hopeful it will heal without surgical intervention.   Stay tuned for updates.......we should know by the end of October. 2016 if the brace is working or if surgery is needed.
Bubba is ready for adoption, even with he brace on his leg.  He wants nothing more than to have his own family again.  Everyone......volunteers, shelter staff, and veterinarian have fallen in love with Bubba.....there is something very special about him.  We are looking for a home with another small, friendly dog or even a few cats for Bubbato hang with in the new home.  Older children would be great, and he would love to have his own boy or girl to love....something his former family would not give him the chance to do.  He is o.k. with the leash, but needs a little training in that area.  His walks a little slower and shorter while his leg heals, but he loves to wander around in fenced yard of his foster home.  He, of course, is never left unattended while outside, and his new family should expect to do the same.He appears to be house trained, although he did have a few accidents until he learned the new schedule of his foster home.  He does not appear to have any behavior issues and is just a great, all around dog.  Don't let the leg issue keep you from applying to adopt this is fixable, and MMR will make sure it is as good as it can be for Bubba.   ***Approved adopters will be able to speak to his attending vet if they would like to ask any questions regarding his leg.
If you have room in your heart and home for this Pug mix boy, please apply today and request Bubba!!

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.

About Mutts Matter Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

A Little History... Mutts Matter Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non profit, all volunteer based organization, with combined rescue experience of over 15 years. We work in conjunction with shelters and other organizations to help save animals on death row, the strays on the street, or ones in unsafe living conditions. We adopt in the DC, VA, and MD areas, with a few exception out of the tri-state area depending on the dog and situation. We are driven by love, compassion, and hope.

All of our rescues enter their new home spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, and are micro-chipped. If we take a dog into our rescue, we do our very best to ensure that they are healthy before going to their new “furever”home. With enough hard work and dedication, we hope to be able to empty the shelters one day soon.

Our Adoption Process...

We require you to fill out an adoption application on our website at
The application will ask for both a vet and personal reference. Both will need to be verified. After those are checked, a pre-screener contacts you to discuss your application.
Once that is complete, they screener decides if they are recommended for a home visit. If the home visit goes well and they are approved to adopt, then they can meet the dog.
Our adoption fee includes the cost of routine vetting, spay/neuter, and microchipping.
