My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Sweet Buster!!

This gorgeous young fellow comes to us from a shelter partner in Southwest Virginia. He was picked up as a stray, and was never claimed.  Like so many hounds and hound mixes, he was in jeopardy of loosing his life in the shelter due to over crowding.  The staff quickly fell in love with Buster, and did all they could to save him.  MMR answered their plea to help this wonderful, friendly, happy dog.

Buster is estimated to be 3-4 years old (he may be younger).  He is a classic looking, tri colored, all American hound mix.  He is a big sweetie who loves attention, especially in the form of belly rubs and has an outgoing personality.  Buster would make a great companion to take on a walk, or he is also just as happy to curl up on the couch.  He is simply looking for a loving owner who will become his new buddy.  This boy has the most beautiful face and his big brown eyes will melt the heart of anyone he meets.  He is happy to give kisses, and has never met a stranger he didn't like.  He was tested with several other dogs of various sizes and genders at the shelter, and passed all testing with flying colors.  He has not been tested with cats.  Buster is heart worm negative and on a monthly preventative.  He is also up to date on his core vaccines (Rabies and Distemper).  He also received a vaccine to help prevent kennel cough. He is recently neutered, and has had no issues with that surgery.  This boy just sails through everything and still comes out literally smiling and happy.

Buster must go to a home with a fenced yard.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  He is, after all, a hound and follows his nose everywhere.....even if it leads to trouble. He also must always be on a harness while on a leash. Hounds are not a breed that should ever be allowed off leash because they can sometimes get so immersed in a scent, they will not realize any danger in the surrounding area.
Buster is a outgoing boy, and enjoys and needs his exercise.  He would be best with a family or person who is active and will include him in as many activities as possible. He cannot be placed in an apartment or condo.  His family should have a large enough yard to allow him supervised play.  He also needs 2-3 walks or other exercise a day.
He is a healthy young dog, and although he is pretty mellow, he does need adequate exercise.   While he has not been tested with children, everyone who has met him strongly feels he would do really well with children over the age of 12.......those that are as active and loving as Buster is.   Buster has not been crate trained and we are determining if this is something he can be trained to do.  He is also working really hard on his house manners.

If you would like to bring Buster into your house and heart, please apply and ask for him by name.  He is just about as perfect as they come.  He is a gentle, sweet dog, who is asking for someone to love him, feed him, share the couch with him, and work with him on his training.  It really isn't that much to ask of a new home and family.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
