This big man was adopted out as a three month old kitten found at the Schnuck’s at K and N.  Eight years later they dumped him at the Humane Society of Missouri Maryland Heights and we got the call to pick him up.  And this is one of the big reasons we microchip all of our foster critters!  The biggest surprise was his size and weight, Phantom is 27 pounds and is morbidly obese.  He is on diet food now and gets one half cup per day.  While he does not over eat he is honestly not very active, and this may be the main reason for his size; not that this reasoning is an excuse it is not!!  Inexpensive food for critters is typically nothing but corn sprayed with flavoring and nutrition and is not suitable for healthy pets that remain in the range or normal sized.  The quality and the quantity of the food matters for the long term health of fur kids.  Phantom did live with another kitty and is docile as can be and should be fine with kitty friends.  He would need a little time to adjust to a new environment and would hide for a few days and needs a safe room to start off in.  He has had no known exposure to dogs but the family that adopted him had two kids and he was a gift for the youngest daughter, in fact she picked him out herself on adoption day.  Phantom was born around June 1st, 2008 and had just had his first dental, is up to date on shots, is micro chipped, negative for FIV and FeLV, and treated for parasites.  Phantom got his name because if you look closely at the picture his face has more white on one side than the other and it made me think of the Phantom of the Opera!  Phantom is Heartland #4795CL.
