My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Dakota. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Dakota's rescuer was very quick to tell us that he is SO much more handsome than his photo. She said that he does have beautiful and expressive eyes (they can't be seen in his photo but they're there and gorgeous!). Once he has a much-needed grooming, Dakota's face will show the adorable features of the Havanese and the scruffy cuteness of the Terrier.

This curious and really, really smart 12 - 18 month old, 23 lb guy is a truly great companion. There aren't visible signs that Dakota was in a very scary high-kill shelter. His rescuer described this gorgeous boy as perfect! She gave the following info about sweet Dakota: Dakota is a calm yet playful guy who really is so sweet and kind. He's a lovebug who wants nothing more than to warm your lap and be devoted and SO sweet! He's respectful in my house (maybe too busy playing and having fun) and has been very trustworthy. He's great with me, my husband, our 3 kids (from 10 - 15 years old) and our 2 dogs.

Dakota's lucky new family will be getting a true gem! We can picture Dakota as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will on a daily basis. Dakota would also do well in a family with dog-loving kids and other gentle dogs. He'd love the fun and active lifestyle...a hike or long walk would put Dakota over the moon.

There's also no question that Dakota would be the most popular guy on the block. He loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Dakota is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's not pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps long, leisurely walks or hikes along Colorado mountain trails ..and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved.

We've requested that Dakota be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too few vets in this industrial area of Kansas. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Dakota's's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

This adorable and really humorous Havanese/Terrier mix is a non-shedding guy. Dakota will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning coat cottony-soft and matt-free.

Dakota is currently being fostered in the Denver area. Meet & Greets are being set up and applications are being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
