We welcome Winny (say that 3 times real fast). This 8 mos old chiweenie girl is mindful of cats, loves kids, and is living in harmony with the 4 dogs in her foster home ranging from 7lbs to 60lbs, but she really adores people. She strives to be a lap dog as often as possible but her foster humans just will not sit down long en ough.

Winny is a pro cuddler and is especially attracted to the tweens and teenager in her home. When she first arrived, she would get a little jealous when the Chihuahua and fellow Chiweenie tried to share lap time and attempted to drive them away, but even then, she would eventually give in and find herself snuggled up next to them. Winny is now BFFs with her foster mom's Chiweenie and they play every chance they get. We assume that because Winny was so very frightened when she first arrived as an unclaimed stray from the local shelter, that this is why it took her a while to warm up to other dogs. Winny is now a social butterfly and has left the experience of being abandoned behind her.

We suspect that there is a possibility that Winny might be a little intimidated at first by any large dogs or new dogs in an adoptive home, but if so, we expect her to shine in no time. She now ignores the gentle giant in her foster home. We do recommend only laid-back large dogs for 8 lbs Winny, though, as with any small dogs, to prevent unintentional injury when playing. Winny is crate-trained, but would flourish in a family where someone works from home or is home often, as she is an absolute lover of humans.

She would do best with older children (>8 yrs) only due to her size. Winny would be happy to have a kid of her own with whom to play fetch. She respectfully requests tennis balls and stuff animals in her next home, please. Winny does like to "talk" when you speak to her and she is vocal especially when she is hungry or your are eating. Her tummy speaks to her and she translates. This gal does like her food!

Though she is a Chihuahua / Dachshund mix, we think that Dachshund lovers will especially appreciate Winny's personality.

Winny is current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She is current on flea preventative and heartworm preventative. Winny has tested heartworm negative.

About Pet Adoption Services, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

Pet Adoption Services, Inc. is a non-profit all breed cat and dog rescue organization in New Orleans. Supported by over 20 volunteer members, Pet Adoption Services was founded in 1996, although some of our members have been involved in rescue for over 20 years. Our mission is to secure loving permanent homes for homeless, abandoned or abused cats and dogs of all breeds. While awaiting adoption, our animals live in the homes of one of our foster parents. During this time the animals receive any necessary veterinary care, including but not limited to, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and heartworm treatment. Our experienced foster parents continually assess each pet's personality and temperament allowing us to place adoptable cats and dogs in just the right permanent home. Pet Adoption Services participates in adoption days during which time, potential adopters get the opportunity to meet and spend time with the animals in a "real life" situation.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Because each of our rescues lives in the home of one of our fosterparents, arrangements will be made for the adopter to meet the pet in which they are interested. Also, PAS holds a monthly adoption day at the Petsmart on Veterans Blvd in Metairie.

Our Adoption Process...

The average adoption fee for dogs is $150, though some adoption fees may be occasionally lower or a bit higher. All animals offered for adoption are spayed or neutered, heartworm negative or undergoing treatment, up to date on vaccinations, treated for intestinal parasites, and microchipped. In addition to completing an adoption contract, potential adopters should be prepared to agree to a veterinarian reference check and home visit. A valid drivers license or state I.D. card is required. This simple yet thorough screening process allows us to place the right animal in your committed, loving home.
