And now, a few words from my foster mom:

Dixie is the most gentle, agreeable girl there is.  She was found as a stray in a rural part of Ontario and taken to a local shelter.  As they had no access to any medical care, she was transferred to LOYAL rescue in hopes that we could give her what she needed.

Dixie is in good physical condition.  She has no mobility issues and loves to go for walks. Unfortunately Dixie's eyes were extremely neglected.  She has significant dry eye that was not attended to and her eyes were in a deplorable state when she arrived.  She has been under the care of a veterinarian and is on a regime of eye drops.  Dixie needs Cyclosporin eye drops twice a day for the rest of her life, and eye lube throughout the day (Estimated cost $50/month).  She had zero tear production when she arrived and this is akin to feeling like you have glass in your eye.  With the use of the cyclosporin, she is now making tears but it will never be to a normal level as it was left too long.

The good news is that while her sight is somewhat impaired in the one eye, her other eye gives her plenty of vision.  She is a dog that is grateful for the basic things in life.  She loves to sit out in the sun, go for walks and have her meals!  She is black in coat colour with white paws and a white tip to her tail.  Dixie also had a dental for severe dental disease and lost all of her teeth except one bottom canine.  As you can see in the pictures, it is a big part of her appearance.

She sleeps in a dog bed at night, is housetrained, gets along with dogs and cats and greets all people with a wagging tail.  Her personality is stellar.  Even with the eye meds, she quietly lets you put them in.

She would be suited to a quiet household, either apartment or house as long as she got her walks.

She is one of the calmest, most soulful dogs that have come through this home and we are hoping that someone out there will appreciate her for her inner strength to get through the severe pain she has endured and her unwavering gentleness.

Our Adoption Process...

In order to adopt from us, you need to complete an adoption application. Follow this link

Once the application is completed, it will be reviewed for suitability, and if yes, we will book a telephone interview with you, and check the veterinary and personal references that you provided. If that goes well, a home visit will be booked, and if your home is safe, the adoption can proceed. You will be required to execute and adoption contract and pay a set adoption fee
