This darling dog showed up on the front porch of a dog lover three nights in a row during the terrible Houston floods in May. With three dogs of their own, they were not able to keep him. Another dog lover took him to the vet-where he was neutered and received all shots. She has seven dogs, so she cannot keep him either. Other dog lovers have entered the picture too. Read more  for Zak's amazing story - he is dearly loved. All folks who have been trying to help him say that he is "the SWEETEST dog, EVER".

Zak has been boarded and a veterinarian's office for the past four yes, FOUR months. Poor baby! And the lady who rescued him has incurred several thousand dollars in boarding fees.

Even after all that he has been through, "Sweetie Pie" Zak has the best temperament. Zak is a typical pit bull mix - he is VERY LOVING, EAGER TO PLEASE, and likes to CUDDLE. He is a "leaner", meaning that he likes to lean against the person he's next to. He weighs about 40 lbs so he is a bit smaller than some pittie mixes. He is good with everyone, kids and adults. And cats too. He is a pleaser and a love bug. He is estimated to be between 14-18 months.He is a happy boy!

Zak has a village of admirers!!! . Several dog lovers take him for walks and spend time with him. The 16 year old girl who found him visits him on a regular basis, and another gentleman who would love to adopt him (too much travel) takes him for play dates. Another gentleman is going to board his own dog for 3-4 days (his dog needs to be the "only dog") so he can foster and love on Zak. Still, another lady takes him to her home on a regular basis for all day play dates.

This dog is PRECIOUS, and he is LOVED. He will be an EXCELLENT addition to a loving home.

About K-9 Angels Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012. As of April 10, 2016, we've found homes for over 2,700 dogs!!

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHLPPC, bordatella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.

Our Adoption Process...

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from K-9 Angels Rescue! Please understand that not all families and dogs are compatible. Every effort is made to match a dog’s exhibited traits with characteristics you desire in a dog.
As such, adoptions are not done on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event we have multiple applications for the same dog and all applications are equal, we will most likely adopt the dog to the applicant having current or previous dog ownership.

To be considered as an adopter, you must be:
- At least 23 years of age and possess valid identification showing current residential address;
- Willing and able to invest the time and money required to provide proper care for a dog
(estimated minimum annual cost = $950 per dog);
- Prepared to pay a $200 Adoption Fee (this includes the dog’s spay/neuter, microchip,
boarding, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention, and any other medicines or medical
procedures needed);
- Willing to allow us to do a home visit prior to adoption; and
- Prepared to give us your veterinarian’s contact information if you currently own a dog
or have owned a dog in the past
