Estimated Date of Birth: October 1, 2005

After 11 years, someone surrendered Klepto to a veterinarians office. The vet thought they found a home for him, but the other male dog in the house had an issue with Klepto being there. The males had to be crated and rotated out. Klepto started to stress and show some anxiety while being crated. He was returned to the vets office and the vet was going to turn him in to Animal Control. One of our good friends reached out to see if we could help as 11 year old pit bulls with crate anxiety do not do well in pounds.
Although the vets office was a great place for an unlimited supply of friends, visitors, and treats, Klepto much preferd the calmer, more quiet environment in his foster home. Unexplained noises and dog crates are very scary things in his world. His favorite place is wedged up against you so you can take on the world together as a team. Dont let his age fool you, although he does enjoy a good nap, he has plenty of energy to play as your shadow all day long. He is a very happy and healthy boy. Besides missing one or two teeth, this guy is in wonderful shape. A real southern gentleman, Klepto considers everyone a bit suspicious unless there have been proper introductions. After the initial meeting, he is happy to welcome everyone with kisses and a huge grin. He walks amazingly well on a leash and will alert you if any suspicious leaf or bug may be lingering nearby. Klepto thrives in a calmer environment with someone who will provide structure and take the responsibility of being the protector off his shoulders. He is housebroken and has shown no signs of counter surfing although he can knock things over with his wagging tail. He is an excellent snuggler and would probably do best in a home without small children as raised voices make him nervous, although he has done well when kids come visit his foster home for small amounts of time. However, if you want a riding partner as you cruise around in your car on a pretty Saturday afternoon, Klepto will race you to the door. It took a little work, but Klepto now does well with the cats in his foster home. His kitty companion is a dog-savvy cat that has decided Klepto is now his good friend, however Klepto will still chase the outdoor kitty on the property when it runs off. He would most likely be fine in a home with cats as long as his person puts a little time in to set boundaries in the beginning. He wants to spend as much time with you as possible so a family that is home much of the day would be ideal for him. To help with his anxiety, Klepto is currently trying a new medication combined with patience and a calm environment. He is a very good older gentleman who needs a friend to spend the rest of forever with.
Our adoption fee is $195. All dogs are current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, on heartworm prevention, and are fed top of the line grain-free food.
