Gavin joined Furry Kids' after being surrendered to a local shelter as a found stray. We believe Gavin is a Cocker Spaniel / Shih Tzu mix and is approx. 4 yrs. old. We do not think he was treated well as he is initially shy with new people, however easily won over especially if a yummy treat is involved in the meeting!
Gavin is a very sweet boy and does great with his foster mates. However, he doesn't care for the rowdy behavior of the younger dogs in his foster home. Gavin will march up to anyone causing a ruckus and woof at them to get them to stop, usually he is unsuccessful! He does love to perch on top of the couch as well as cuddle in his foster Mom's lap. He also loves to snuggle at night with his foster Mom in bed.
Gavin is crate trained and for the most part housebroken. His foster Mom is very consistent with him going outside to potty. Gavin would do best in a home with school aged children or older. A fenced yard is preferred but he does well walking on a leash. Gavin will bark when crated initially so we do not recommend an apartment lifestyle for him.
Initially, Gavin was in horrible condition and could barely walk due to the matting in his coat. Gavin also had a cherry eye in his right eye that has been repaired. You can read more about Cherry Eye here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_eye The same eye that he had surgery for his dry eye he does take daily drops to help him produce tears. It is unknown at this time how long he will need to take these drops.
Gavin has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Gavin, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.
