Once upon a time, in a not so far away kingdom, there lived a peasant dog with no name or family. She lived in the basement of an abandoned home, and spent her days dreaming of a new life filled with treats and snuggles. One day, this nameless dog got her wish. The Humane Officers from the Jefferson County Humane Society rescued her from the basement she had been banished to and brought her to a happy new home filled with dog walks and all the treats she could eat. This nameless dog became Ashley that day because of the soot and ash covering most of her body from the filthy basement. She would never again have to live in the cold and dark never knowing love. Now, Ashley is searching for the happiest of endings in a warm castle, and a King or Queen to call Mom and Dad. This holiday season, we would like to fulfill Ashley’s wish. Don’t shop, adopt a dog in need.

Act quickly to adopt ASHLEY. Pets at this Shelter may be held for only a short time.

About Jefferson County Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
