How to Adopt Me

Falcon is a young male who loves to cuddle and sleep on a human's bed. He's very friendly & loving and has been waiting way too long for you to find him. So if you have room in your heart & home for a lovebug, come take little Falcon home from High Plateau Humane Society in Alturas. *** Due to Halloween, HPHS will not be adopting out black cats during the month of October. You are welcome to visit and make a deposit on one, then pick him up come November! ***

Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

The HPHS supports spay/neutering of all pets. Adopt from us and your new pet is either already fixed or if too young, comes with a spay/neuter voucher honored by the local veterinarian office in Alturas. Discount spay/neuter vouchers are also available at the Second Chance Thrift Store.

About High Plateau Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

An all-volunteer organization, HPHS was founded in 1987. We rescue hundreds of dogs and cats each year. Our Second Chance Thrift Store on First and Court Streets in Alturas is open Tues-Sat, accepting your tax-deductible donations of miscellanea, which we then resell. Come in to purchase items such as low-cost spay/neuter certificates, pet supplies and lots of donated treasures. We do this because we have a passion to rescue orphaned and homeless animals and want to make life better for the "underdogs" in our county.

Come Meet Our Pets...

People can visit our Second Hand Thrift Store to see the adoptable cats five days a week, closed Sundays & Mondays.

Call or e-mail ahead if you are interested in meeting one of the adoptable dogs, as they are all fostered & so special arrangements must be made.

Our Adoption Process...

When someone releases an animal to HPHS, we require a signed release form. we then have the animal vaccinated and fixed before offering it for adoption. We charge $85 to adopt an adult dog, $125 for puppies and $50 to adopt a cat, and that helps to cover the cost of spay or neuter. If we cannot find a home locally, we transfer the animal to a larger city with a "no-kill" policy so it can be adopted in an urban area.
