Razcal is a happy go lucky kinda guy! He was rescued from a neglectful situation.  He has a heart of gold and you would never know it.  Razcal loves people and attention! He is really good with kids, dogs and cats.  When he is unsure of someone or something he will bark and circle around until he feels comfortable. Some times taking a few minutes.  Once he settles in there is no escaping his love.  He is a quick learner.  Studying basic commands as of now, sit, stay, leave it etc. When left alone he has free roam of the house, with his other foster brothers (dogs) and is doing just fine. He will go into a kennel if asked and given a treat.  Razcal is also working on leash handling. He loves to go out and about but doesn't always get the whole idea of being on a leash, he also does well in the car.  Razcal loves to snuggle and watch a movie, go on an adventure and play, play, play!

Razcal has a right hind leg injury that didn't receive proper treatment and has healed incorrectly. Because of this, he does have arthritis and this causes him to some times "skip" when he walks and also sit quite a bit as it is easier to keep your balance while sitting. He will also lean on you for balance, but as stated earlier, he loves to be near you!   Razcal does NOT let this stop him from enjoying life!  He plays and runs with other dogs and can keep up with the best of them!  He would do well with a brother or sister to show him the ropes or an active family to show him what it means to be apart of a loving family.  If you are interested in Razcal, he would love to meet you!

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
