Hello There...Rose is my name and I was adopted from the VHS but returned when my people moved 6 months later and could not take me with them. I'm a very social girl but a little nervous in new situations. Please use only positive reinforcement to boost my confidence. I'm gentle, was playful with the 2 smaller dogs in my home and my person said l love to love. During my temperament evaluation, I was social, affectionate and tolerant of all handling. I've been on a couple of Canines for Cardio walks from the VHS to Garvin Park and I was easy to walk. I seemed a little scared of medium size or larger dogs but was friendly with smaller dogs. So please introduce me to any dogs I'll be living with before going home.A lot of loud rambunctious activity might be a bit much for a sweet girl like me so I might do best in a home with mature/older kids. I'm keeping my paws crossed for a furever home with an adopter who wants to share their life, love and activities with sweet lovable me.
My adoption fee includes my spay/neuter, up to date immunizations, nationally recognized microchip and more.

About Vanderburgh Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. (VHS), a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.

Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.

Our mission:
Leading our community to eliminate pet overpopulation through Spay/Neuter, Adoption, and Humane Education. Alter. Adopt. Adore.

We also offer a Safe Pets Program, which provides a safe haven to pets of local families who are victims of domestic violence, working with a local shelter, and have no place for their pets to go in a dangerous situation.

Our Pit Stop Program provides funding for any resident of Vanderburgh County to get their pit bull-type dog spayed or neutered at no cost. Only a $10 rabies shot is required if the pet is not current.

We provide bi-weekly Emergency Pet Food Assistance to local families having a rough time providing for their pets.

Our Pet-Assisted Therapy program brings volunteers to local nursing homes and assisted living centers with gentle-tempered dogs who are up for adoption.

Come Meet Our Pets...

While we hold and/or attend several events throughout the year that sometimes involve us bringing animals with us, we only do adoptions onsite at the shelter.

Please visit between the hours of 12:00 noon CST and 6:00 pm CST Tuesday through Saturday to adopt an animal, no appointment needed!
