My name is Emma, I’m 6 years young and weigh around 65 pounds. I don’t remember ever being happy or feeling safe in my entire life, until now. I have always been itchy, hungry and afraid of what may happened next. The people I encountered in my life were not very kind to me and I learned it is best to stay far away from humans. But that all has changed now!
One day, I was wandering the streets, as I would always do, when my tummy growled so badly that I had to find food. I typically would hide in the woods and wait until dark but that day I couldn’t wait. While I was sniffing along the road, trying to find anything to fill my tummy, I lifted my head and, well, there she was. My rescue angel. I didn’t realize she was going to help me at that moment, so my initial reaction was to run as fast as my hurting legs could carry me. All of the sudden I smelled food and I stopped, turned around and noticed her putting something on the ground while slowly stepping back. My hunger proved bigger than my fear. I couldn’t help but to go back and eat. I was watching her closely, trying to eat as fast as I could, ready to run away if needed but she just stood there kindly talking to me with a tone of voice I have never heard before. That was new! It wasn’t scary or threating anymore, it was calming. Long story short, she took me off the streets and put me into a life I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams.
Now I’m living in heaven, but they call it a foster home. Who knew, such things as a dog beds and food and water bowls that are being refilled existed? And let’s not forget toys, lots of toys, just for me! I love to play and sometimes when I just can’t contain my happiness I gallop. What? Have you never seen a princess galloping?
I’m rather shy and it took me some time to get used to my new environment and people but now I can’t help but be affectionate with my human family. I melt in my foster mom’s hands, and time stops when she is rubbing my belly or scratching my ears. The human touch, kindness and the feeling of being safe is still all new to me but each day I’m becoming more confident. My skin is also healing and I even have some hair growth again. The aches and pains are almost all gone and soon I will be ready to have my very own fairy tale ending, according to my wonderful foster mom. I’m excited and can’t wait to meet my forever family!
I’m good with older children, I get along with other dogs, and I even tolerate cats. I walk very well on leash, take treats gently out of hands and already know how to sit. What I don’t like are crates, those make me very nervous. Lucky for me, my foster mom said I don’t need to be crated as I’m already house trained. I hope my forever family will be patient with me and understand that I’m a princess in the making!
