Facts about Jasmin

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Tortoiseshell
  • Age: Young
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Jasmin was found as a stray in July. The people who found her had kindly spayed. They would have kept her but she did not get along with their other cats. She is a very sweet girl who loves to snuggle. Jasmin is what is called a Tortoiseshell cat or Tortie for short. These cats are almost always female; a male Tortoiseshell cat is very rare. They are known to have a very distinct personality and according to folklore they bring their owner good luck. Because of this sometimes they are called "money" cats. She is friendly with children and is litter trained. We do not know if she has ever lived with dogs.

About Somerset County Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

We are animal lovers. We hate the idea of putting an animal down -- for any reason. However, unlike other shelters, we take-in all animals -- including abused and medically neglected animals. There are times when an animal is simply so vicious that we can not responsibly adopt the pet to a family. We have, at other times, been told by our veterinarian, that it is not humane to extend the life of a very sick animal.
We make every effort to find homes for every animal in our care. When our shelter is over-crowded, we rely on a network of "foster families" to take care of our pets. All the while, we have increased our efforts to "get the word out" about our pets (e.g. this website, pictures, newspaper publicity, etc.) Our efforts pay off.
The Staff and Board of Directors at the Humane Society love pets, and our actions bear out that simple fact. Our animal guests get the very best care while they are with us.
Please help! We need volunteers to help us exercise the dogs. We try to walk the dogs each day to provide them with the exercise and attention they so desperately need. You can volunteer as little or as much as you like. If you would be interested in helping us care for our animal guests, please call the shelter at 814-443-2121.
