Gus's Story...
Meet Gus! This beautiful hot chocolate colored, intelligent boy will enjoy sharing every activity with you! He can be a little shy at first and then warms up to be very affectionate and ready for loving. He will need someone to show him the joys of being part of the family inside a house as his former family did not let him inside. Gus will need regular exercise, more than just a walk around the block or a romp in the yard but he isn’t a high energy live wire. Sensitive, he will need a gentle hand and be given some time to trust. Here at the shelter he is already starting to bloom into a loving boy with having people and dogs to interact and play with. Gus gets along with his outside kennel buddy Tess, we haven't had a chance to see him interact with cats. He has been great with kids who get down on the floor with him and give him pets and treats. At 1&1/2 - 2 years old, Gus is a full-grown adult but we are trying to get him to fill out a little more with regular meals of good lamb and rice food. Given Gus’s first year or so as an outside dog, and like most shelter dogs, he will need a refresher on house training. Here at Rescue Ranch he has been using his doggie door to go to the outside part of his kennel. Gus is dreaming of finding a warm and loving forever home! All he needs is a caring person or family to give him all the love and care (and treats!) he deserves!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gus, a Yreka Australian Kelpie/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Kelpie/Labrador Retriever for sale in Yreka, or seeking a Australian Kelpie/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Yreka.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Yreka already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Yreka breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Kelpie/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Australian Kelpie/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Yreka paves the way for another one to be saved.
