~~Nala, who is almost two, came to us two weeks ago. In that short time, I have enjoyed the pleasure of her company. She has such a big heart and will be very loyal to her person. She needs to be in a household with someone who is very loving yet is not afraid to correct her when she needs reminded of her manners. Nala is shy at first when she meets new dogs but warms up quickly and loves to romp and play. In her previous home, Nala lived with a cat and I was told she liked to chase her kitty sibling but never got too rough. Nala is housebroken, crate trained, good with recall and knows basic commands such as sit, shake and lay.  Nala would do best in a home with older children only, if any, because the commotion from smaller children is too much for her.  Nala is possessive of her person, or people, because when she plays with our dog she likes to herd him away from us and keep the toys away from him. She has never gotten aggressive but needs to be reminded of her manners. If you are looking for a loving, playful, attentive, smart, and loyal dog, Nala is the one for you.  If you feel you can offer Nala her furever home, please work with your adoption coordinator or complete an adoption application at  You must live in NC, VA or MD to adopt.  Nala is being fostered in Charlotte, NC.

Hi, I’m Nala. I’m 7 months old and spent most of my puppy days on a chicken farm in an outdoor kennel. I’m currently 53 lbs and hope to grow even BIGGER! Unfortunately, my owners didn’t have the time to train and care for me any longer and now I’m with my current foster family.

I was born with a deformed elbow but thanks to Southeast German Shepherd Rescue and the veterinarians, it feels much better. Now, I run just as fast as my foster siblings. The vet said to take it easy but other than that, I’ve been medically cleared.

I have 2 other foster siblings and they’re both German Shepherd Dogs just like me! They’ve taught me many things and helped me get comfortable to this new environment. I’m currently learning my basic commands and to potty outside. I train easily as long as you keep it fun with toys and treats. When I’m in my crate, I bark and get scared only when I can’t see my foster parents but I’m comfortable in the crate otherwise. I’m always looking forward to my walks and meeting new people and other dogs. I enjoy car rides and jump right in. I’m an adventurous little pup and like to wander around. My favorite activities are playing in mud puddles, tug-o-war, fetch and lots of belly rubs!

I think I’d best fit a home with other dogs. I’ve met several cats and took a liking to them but those were just brief introductions. Since I’m an adventurous little pup, I’d like a nice big yard to explore. If not, a best friend to come along and explore with me would be even better. I hope to find my forever home soon!

Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact .
