My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Big Tom -- Looks like Boxer/ Mastiff Blend
2 years old Great with Everyone! House-Trained

Big Tom is a truly amazing dog – he is a huge puppy who weighs in at just over 70 pounds. If you like big dogs (and I do!), then Big Tom might make you the perfect buddy!

Tom looks like a giant Boxer/ maybe Mastiff blend. He may also be part Am Staff, but he’s really too big for that, I think. But who knows?! He is so unusual that it’s hard to tell his background!

He is simply marvelous with people -- gentle and loving, and very well-behaved. He is also good with children – even though he is bigger than a lot of the children who come from around the neighborhood to play with him, he just seems to know to be good with kids. He doesn’t jump or play rough with them at all.

I had a dog trainer visit to evaluate Big Tom’s personality and temperament. The trainer said Tom was super good with people, but maybe not so well socialized with other large dogs.

I have discovered that Tom is great with little dogs and better with female dogs than with male dogs. I don’t think he has to be an “only dog,” but he would need to get to know his companion dog(s) before bonding with them. He really seems to ignore them more than anything else.

I have had him with my other foster dogs – big and small – I started him off with a muzzle , but now he walks around with them and does just fine.

He is a wonderful love puppy, with or without a leash. He is so sweet that you even take a nice chewy bone or toy out of his mouth, and he will cooperate like a lamb!

Tom is not a barker or a digger or a jumper – he is content to sleep beside you on the floor or hang out side on the deck during the day.

Tom is house broken and great in the car –he comes when he is called and is extremely trainable. He is willing, eager to please, and never runs out of the yard, even when I have him in the unfenced front yard.

He sleeps in our bedroom at night –sleeps all night through and doesn’t chew on anything or misbehave.

He is, of course, neutered and up to date on all of his shots.

I think Tom is a totally wonderful dog -- he is gentle and good natured, and will make a perfect companion for anyone!

He is so young and healthy, and a total sweetheart. He is a big, strong boy who is built like a sumo wrestler but underneath all that, he is gentle and affectionate.

Because he is big and strong, you have to be strong to train him. But he wants to be a good boy -- is not aggressive at all – and will make a fabulous, loyal friend.

Tom is courageous, affectionate, trusting, trustworthy and a sensible watch dog. He is a true people-dog and will love you forever.

He is just a big galoot – funny, well behaved, intelligent, and very, very handsome!

Mastiffs are a wonderful breed – they love being around people and are known to bond closely with his “family.” They are known for having a combination of grandeur and good nature, as well as courage and docility.

Boxers, too, are great companions -- one of the breed's most notable characteristics is their desire for human affection, especially from children. They are patient and spirited with children, but also protective, making them a popular choice for families.

Neither boxers nor mastiffs require much grooming, but they do need daily exercise.

Big Tom is just a big love dog!
