My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a hetero beige female chinchilla who’s looking for her new home. Her name is Missy, and she actually is a second time resident at the rescue! Missy is now 8-9 years old, but we first met her when she was about 2 years old. She originally came to the rescue from a home that was feeding her incorrect food and treats and keeping her in much too small a cage. She was adopted out to a great family, but unfortunately, they are not able to keep her any longer, so she came back to the rescue again.

Missy is a very sweet girl and does well with being handled and petted. We were told that she wasn’t fond of a male member of her household, but she has shown no difference in personality towards anyone who has come to see her at the rescue. She has had several adoption inquiries, but unfortunately, they have all passed onto other, mostly younger, chinchillas. When we hold her, she is a pretty calm chinchilla and sits nicely in our arms. She seems to enjoy being held and petted, and is a very sweet girl that needs a retirement home. Don’t let her age fool you, she still has plenty of spunk and loves running on her wheel! However, since she is a senior, she will not come with a health guarantee. That said, she appears perfectly healthy at this time, and we have no reason to think that she might be ill.

Missy’s color is called hetero beige. This color is the darker of the two beige colors, and gives Missy a beige color over most of her body, with a white belly. As you can see in the pictures, she has freckles in her ears, which can be common in chinchillas that are beige or have a beige gene.

She would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone, however, she did well when she was caged with her cagemates when she first came here. They all got along wonderfully together, so we anticipate that she might do well with buddies again. However, we cannot make any guarantees. If you are interested in pairing her up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Mazuri pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Missy is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

Missy’s adoption fee is $75
