My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a dirty bellied standard grey female chinchilla who’s looking for her new home. Her name is Lumpy, and she came here all the way from Pennsylvania! Lumpy, along with several other chinchillas, was at a chinchilla rescue on the east coast, but was transferred to our rescue a few months ago, along with her 3 babies. Her babies found great homes, but Lumpy had to wait a little bit, as she had not been separated from the male chinchilla until after she had her babies, and she could have been pregnant again. Thankfully, she was not pregnant, and now that we know that for sure, she is now available to find a great home of her own!

Lumpy is a 3 year old chinchilla. In the chinchilla community, we would call her a dirty-bellied standard grey, as she is a standard grey, but has a lot of grey coloration in her belly. Standard grey chinchillas typically have a white belly – the grey in hers is indicative of the fact that she likely carries the ebony color, further suggested by the fact that two of her babies were ebonies. This makes no difference for her as a pet, but the knowledgeable chinchilla person inside of me can’t simply say she’s a standard grey, as that’s not quite right.

Lumpy is relatively easy to catch. Once you have her out and in your arms, she just wants to be loved. She sits nicely in your arms and actually seems to enjoy being petted. She’s a sweet girl. She would make a good chinchilla for someone who’s looking for a calmer chinchilla, but not one that’s so calm that it wouldn’t be any fun. She’s definitely got spunk left and she’s a fun girl. She doesn’t bite.

She would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before.

This chinchilla is currently caged alone, however, she did great when she had her three babies with her, so she might do just fine with buddies again. However, we cannot make any guarantees. If you are interested in pairing her up with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Mazuri pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Lumpy is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

Lumpy’s adoption fee is $75
