Blossom came to us as a stray from the Marion County Iowa area.  She was found at the end of a boat ramp, by a caring fisherman.  The finder believes he saw a person walking this dog on a leash before she was found.  Unfortunately, we believe Blossom was dumped.  She was completely matted with (still what seemed to be) winter fur and cockle burrs.  Her matts were so extensive that she had to be given a sedative before she was shaved.  She also needs to put on quite a few pounds!  After all that Blossom has gone through, she shows us a sweet personality.  She is at the front of her kennel now, when new people approach, but she is still timid.  She will walk a short distance on a leash with us, but she likes to go between our legs.  She seems to feel safe there.  Blossom will be traveling to Iowa State on October 31 to be spayed and have a thorough exam.  We hope that by then she will have gained a few pounds, will be I little more trusting and ready for adoption.  We encourage potential adopters to visit Blossom, as she will benefit from loving and gentle interaction!  Blossom's adoption fee will be $100.  The fee includes spay, microchip, current on all vaccinations, current flea treat and current deworming.

About Marion County Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

Our mission is to humanely care for homeless pets, return them to their current owners, or adopt them to new loving homes. We will educate the public about responsible pet ownership & the importance of spaying & neutering their pets.
Marion County Humane Society was founded in November 1986 operating out of the former city dog pound. Through the years they have returned lost pets to their owners, educated the public of the importance of spaying & neutering , & seen a major decline in the number of abandoned pets. The volunteers have placed over 5000 unwanted dogs & cats. In October 2000 the volunteers made a decision to close the MCHS. The facility had detireoted beyond repair. In June 2008 after raising over $230,000 the MCHS opened the doors of their new facility.
