If you are looking for an easy going, sweet, mellow companion look no further than Buttons. He is a 7-year-old, 16 pound Shih Tzu that came to POMDR after his guardian passed away. He's great both at home and out in public. Kids, adults, bikes, strollers, dogs - he is friendly and appropriate with all. He might even do well with a dog-savvy cat, although he will joyfully chase one that runs. His foster moms have taken him to the beach, brew pubs, restaurant patios, and he has behaved like a perfect gentleman every time. He doesn't do a lot of male urine marking so he's safe to take into dog friendly stores. Buttons is very trusting and will let you bathe him or medicate him willingly. In fact his Vet said that Buttons was one of the gentlest, easiest dogs he's ever treated. He has the typical little dog issues - dry eye, ears and skin that are prone to itchy allergies - so he needs daily eye drops, allergy meds, and a limited ingredient dog food that is easily bought at most pet stores. Luckily he doesn't mind being medicated and submits with great patience so treating him is easy.He walks beautifully on leash. One walk a day seems to be enough exercise for him, although he could stand to lose a little weight and would welcome more outings. He is a nice mix of affectionate and independent. He doesn't demand constant attention, but also appreciates his spoiling time. He loves being with his people. Probably his biggest talent is sitting beside you watching TV, especially programs with animals in them. He is a funny little character with a preference for ice cubes in his water. He still sleeps with a stuffed animal that he has had since he was a puppy. He puts himself to bed and sleeps through the night in his crate but would much rather cuddle with you on the bed. Low key, adorable, Buttons is going to make some lucky person very, very, happy. Buttons came to us came to us with Bandit (also available for adoption) after their guardian passed away.
