A Little Bit About Me

Raider is an affectionate, gentle soul who is awaiting his new home. At eight years young, his personality is established and there should be no surprises. Although he did not live with children in his previous home, he is a tolerant fellow. If children are respectful he should be just fine. He is attentive to people and enjoys interacting. Raider has a playful side and will chase a ball, but not always bring it back.

Raider, unfortunately, has been putting away the calories for quite some time. This limits his mobility as well as being hard on his joints. We recommend a consult with your vet. Most likely the tried-and-true regimen of diet and exercise will be advised. You may find an entire new Raider emerge. Losing weight will also give him more energy which in turn will require more exercise. In the meantime, enroll Raider in a family dog training class. Although he does know a few behaviors, a class will help cement your bond with him. We also suggest a scenting class which will engage his sensitive nose and tire him out without being physically difficult.

Raider does have a few quirks. His previous owner says he likes to guard the car and the yard. He also hates to have his nails trimmed. Our behavior/adoption staff will give you some advice on these behaviors.

Raider appeared indifferent to the dogs he met during his evaluation. He was tolerant of their greeting but did not make any attempt to play. He did give a very mild correction to an annoying little terrier. Dogs his age are often not interested in meeting other dogs. So don't force him. He may choose one or two dog buddies and that is all he needs, if at all. He likes his people best!

About North Bay Canine Rescue & Placement

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a group of people dedicated to rescuing dogs from crisis situations, some of which include euthanasia by animal shelters, neglect and other forms of abuse, or "free to a good home" ads, which result in dogs being bounced from one home to another, or being acquired by animal brokers ("bunchers") and sold to research laboratories where they are used for testing then discarded ("cruelty industries").

NBCR&P works primarily with 5 herding breeds, and herding breed mixes. On occasion, NBCR&P also rescues and places other breeds. We foster our dogs in a home environment, rather than a kennel, if at all possible. We take pride in our promise that at any time and for any reason in the dog's life, if the need arises, he or she has a safe place with us ("return to rescue" policy).
