Magoo is in need of a new home due to the arrival of a new baby in the family and his family's long work hours. This 9.5-year-old pit bull-mix boy is a sweetheart who gets along wonderfully with adults, children and other dogs — in fact, he LOVES to play with other dogs. He has lived with cats as well, but does best with cats with "cattitude," as he leaves them alone and is less curious. He's occasionally caught squirrels and birds, but then immediately got scared and let them go :-) Magoo has never hurt anything or anyone — he just loves to play like a puppy! Although he's afraid of very loud noises — e.g., thunderstorms, fireworks, demolition — he'll completely relax as long as he can be by your side. Things aren't so scary with a good friend nearby!
Sadly, a 9-year-old pup isn't usually what people are looking for, but Magoo is SUCH a sweetheart ... and we'd love to see him with a family or a single person who has the time to love and care for him. He has been well taken care of, has complete vet records, and goes to the groomer on a regular basis (so he's always clean and shiny! :-)  He is fine being loose in the house, but cannot be crated or shut in a room as confinement makes him anxious and scared. He is taking very inexpensive medication (a steroid, about $5–$10 per month) every three days for masculatory muscle myositis, weighs about 60-65 lbs., and overall is in excellent health.

We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit and (scroll down and click on the  "Invisible Fencing Systems" link).

We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

About Almost Home Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have weekly meet and greets and potential adopters can set up appointments with foster families.

Our Adoption Process...

We require vet and reference checks and a home visit for all adoptions. Our adoption fee is $275 with an extra $50 deposit for unaltered puppies.
