Umbrella of Hope 'Be Our Pet'
***PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION IN ITS ENTIRETY. If you cannot be bothered to read what we have written regarding the home we are looking for then we cannot be bothered to have one of our all-volunteer team respond***
Luke Duke is part of our Cats of Hazzard litter. You can follow them on their own page on Instagram @catsofhazzard. Luke is not ready for adoption quite yet, but we are searching for his perfect home in the interim.
We are raising funds to cover the costs of sending these cats to specialists here: https://www.gofundme.com/catsofhazzard or you can PayPal us at www.paypal.me/UOH
Luke was born around 9/1/2016 with several defects to the bones in his hind limbs. He has tentatively been diagnosed with bilateral femoral head hypoplasia plus tibial and metatarsal agensis/hypoplasia... pretty much this means he is missing bones in his lower legs.
This does not stop him. He runs, scoots, climbs cat trees, wrestles with the other kitties and purrs like he has a motor in his throat. His only restriction is that he MUST be indoor-only unless directly supervised in a contained area (watching you garden while you are outside with him in a fenced yard and going back inside when you do).
He DOES use the litterbox. Due to his size (he is 1.3 lbs at six weeks old), he is currently unable to climb into a regular one, so we have made him a modified one. We expect that once he is ready for adoption he will have grown enough to use a regular litterbox.
He LOVES other cats and loves to wrestle with them. He also loves the pitbull that belongs to his foster mom and should be fine with dogs who are gentle with cats. He also loves people.
While he is not quite ready for adoption because s=he is too young AND we are trying to get him seen by the specialists at the local Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis to ensure that he will be fine long-term and does not need any interventions... we are accepting interest on him.
We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Normally, we expect adopters to come to us to adopt. However, we would be willing to raise the funds to escort him in the cabin of an airplane to any major US airport to get him to a forever home if that home was STELLAR or if he was going to live with someone who has the same condition (or a similar one) that he does.
We DO expect adopters of this litter to keep up on their social media accounts and this is a condition of their adoption (we can teach you) because we are huge proponents of special needs adoptions and we need animals like the Cats of Hazzard to be out there and be proud and show other people that being different is okay and that adopting an animal with special needs is NOT scary. We want people to be inspired to adopt the animals who are not 'perfect' (although perfect is relative) so that animals like Luke have the option of being adopted and not euthanized.
He will be neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated prior to adoption. He is free of parasites. We hope to have him evaluated at UC Davis by a specialist in the near future.
Interested parties should send a DETAILED email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can start the conversation to see if your home is a good match for him and work out the details. We expect he will be ready to go to his new home in December.

Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. We offer rebates of adoption fees after completion of obedience classes and CGC titles.
Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. Some of our senior animals have sponsorships for their food/vet care/medicine for the rest of their life at our vet in Pittsburg, CA (94565)
Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service. Other retired public servants, please let us know what career you retired from and we can let you know if we offer any discounts for your adoption
