found a new home!
Plenty of my friends are looking
for one too. Find a pet to adopt.
I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.
Salem is an 18 month old black and tan male long coat, with a big head and large feet, suggesting he still has some growing to do at 91 lbs. He is a stray from a Sacramento area shelter, so nothing is known of his background.
Salem is affectionate yet independent when you are home with him. Salem does not like being alone for long periods. He can get himself into trouble if not given an outlet to channel his young energy. X-rays show he has strong hips. He currently sleeps on the floor in the bedroom at his foster home at night. He doesn't have strong prey drive, but he strongly dislikes it when other dogs bark at him.
He has learned to be respectful and wait to not rush through doorways ahead of his person. He does well getting a bath with a garden hose, especially if you massage him a little with the soap. He likes getting brushed & will let you trim his nails if you give him treats along the way. He is calm around strangers & loves them to pet him. He knows: Sit, Down, Come, Heel and appears to be housebroken.
He loves car trips, but can't stay in the car alone or in the house alone for very long yet since he is still a puppy. He is crate trained but will move the crate across the floor which may scratch a wood floor so put his crate on a different surface or a rug. He needs to be brushed at least once a week or his fine fur will get knots. Salem is a fantastic companion.
He is in good physical shape currently running 1/2 hour most mornings while his foster rides a bike next to him. Continued training, exercise and socialization will be required for this nice boy.
This dog is a Level 2. Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our GCGSR Dogs page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels.
