Say hello to our handsome teenager, Jeffrey! This sweet boy arrived at our shelter because his owner abandoned him and left him at a neighbor's home. As you can see, Jeffrey is confused and very nervous as he tries to adjust to shelter life. The staff and volunteers are working with him to build his confidence and helping him to adjust to the new sights and sounds of his new abode. Soft voices and slow movements help Jeffrey earn your trust. Upon approaching his kennel, Jeffrey nervously plays hide and seek between the 2 sides of the kennel. Kneeling or sitting in his kennel helped him feel less threatened and with some coaxing he will lean into you for a soft pet and allows you to leash him slowly. He even shared a quick thank you kiss! He displays nice leash manners but hold on tight because any unexpected noises startle him! Jeffrey has shown immense improvement since he arrived and each day he is gaining more confidence and trust. Our Jeffrey just wants a Furever home that has a loving and patient owner that he can share his love with. He just wants love and to be wanted! If you have room in your hearts and your home for our sweet Jeffrey, bring the family to the shelter to meet our handsome boy!!

About Atlanta Humane Society - Alpharetta

About Our Shelter...

Atlanta Humane Society (AHS) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit (IRS Tax ID# 58-0685900) and the oldest private charitable organization in Atlanta, founded in 1873 following a visit to the city by Robert E. Lee. The animal charity was originally chartered to protect women, children, and animals and remained a child protection and animal welfare society for 79 years. AHS, now a widely recognized pet adoption center, clinic, and educational program provider, was originally located on Marietta Street and moved to its location at 981 Howell Mill Road in the 1930s. Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Road Adoption Facility was opened in December of 2011 in Alpharetta.

It is our mission to prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation of animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively and humanely protected by an aware and caring society.

Atlanta Humane Society places approximately 8,000 animals into forever homes each year. AHS is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for the animals once they are in our care. We only humanely euthanize those animals suffering from significant medical issues or that pose behavior concerns. We are proud to be a part of the solution to ending pet homelessness and overpopulation in the Southeast United States.
