Vanilla is a sweet labrador retriever mix, 1 year old and about 30 lbs. We think she's had a bit of a rough start in life, because we found her with an embedded collar in her neck. After removing the collar and treating her neck, she told us that she would love to find herself a nice cozy home in the DC area that she could call her own.

As a young lab mix, Vanilla definitely has lots of energy and will need adequate exercise to keep her happy and healthy. She would love a walking buddy to take her for long walks, bring her to the dog park or doggie daycare to meet some new friends, or play fetch with her in the backyard. After a day full of exercise and playtime with her forever family, she would love nothing more than to cozy up on a comfy dog bed or your couch to watch your favorite TV shows with you.

Like most shelter dogs, Vanilla may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained. She is good with other dogs, but we haven't seen her with cats or kids yet. If you have either, let us know and we can try to find out!

Vanilla will make an excellent family member, and she's hoping that you'll give her that chance. You won't regret it!

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Tori at!

About Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a group of highly motivated and highly dedicated volunteers. We spend countless hours making sure that wonderful dogs find loving forever homes. We don't do it for money -- we do it for the joy a dog can bring to its new family; we do it for our love of animals; and we do it to save lives!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!
