Hello there! I’m Annie, and if you’re a quiet, gentle soul looking for someone to share your life with, you might be the reason I wag my tail! I love to cuddle up to people and will take all the love you can give, but I do get nervous in new situations with new people, so I need someone who is willing to be patient and let me adjust at my own pace. If you sweet talk to me, I’ll soon become your best friend!

Let me tell you the ways I’ll make your life better. I’ll make you laugh at how much I love to roll around and scratch my back – it’s the first thing I do when I get outside every morning! Then I’ll sniff and snort my way around the yard, making sure no little critters or birds entered my domain overnight – I am a hunting dog, after all! After I’ve secured the perimeter, then I’ll come back to greet everyone in the household (I might just ignore the cat). If they’re out already, I’ll even greet the little neighbor girls! They’re so sweet, and I love it when they come over to say hello and rub my belly.

One of my favorite times of the day is breakfast, and I’ll dance around you as you’re preparing my meal. I don’t mind if other dogs approach me while I’m eating, but I love to go sniffing around everyone’s bowls, just in case there’s leftovers. Hopefully they don’t mind, but if they do, it might be best to keep an eye on me, because I might just sneak an extra bite or two.

During the day, I’m really good about going into my crate – in fact, I love it! Foster mom usually stuffs lots of goodies in there for me, so it’s fun to cuddle up and find all the treats. I’m always excited to see you when you get home to let me out, but I love my cozy den. At night, you don’t even have to shut the door – I’ll just go in and snooze away all my own!

I’ve also learned how comfortable a couch can be. Foster mom tells me she doesn’t usually let dogs on the couch, but since I make such a big deal over how wonderful it is, she’s made an exception for me.  However, when I get too cozy or am napping, I don’t really like when other dogs try to share. I just want that comfortable bed or couch all to myself!

Foster mom says I’ve been great to take on walks. At first, when I’m really excited about everything to smell, I’ll pull a little, but it won’t take long before I settle in for a nice little walk with you. I might get nervous when something or someone new passes by (I was really scared by the first bike I saw!), but if you tell me it’s ok, rub my ears, and give me time to check it out, I’ll soon be wagging my tail again.

I’ll admit, I don’t know much about the whole sit or stay thing. I’m still a little nervous that all the good things that have come my way might disappear, and when I’m not sure what’s expected of me, I get a little upset. I promise I’m smart! Just give me some time and patience, and I’ll learn everything you want me to!

Note from foster: Annie is a great dog who would be perfect for someone who leads a quieter lifestyle. She loves taking walks and chasing the birds and mice in the backyard (it’s those hunting genes!), but gets nervous quite easily, so needs someone who is willing to let her adjust and help her learn the world isn’t something to be feared. She does great with other dogs, but tends to get a little protective of her space when she’s trying to relax – just doesn’t want someone invading her nap time! Because she gets nervous easily, training should go slow and steady. She needs to know that she’s doing things right, so setting her up for the win is key to her success!
