Lady is an owner surrender who came to Rover Rescue from a shelter in Southern Indiana. It seems that her original family, unable to keep her because of a move, had given her to another family member to care for and now they also will be moving to an apartment that will not allow them to keep her. Poor Lady, uprooted from 2 homes already is looking for some stability, love and a forever home where she can spend the rest of her life with people who love her. Lady is a 6 year old, cream and white Basenji-Chihuahua mix who weighs 20 pounds, is housebroken and very sweet. Her face and head are definitely Chihuahua while her longer legs and body style are that of a Basenji. For those familiar with the Basenji bred, Basenjis are considered bark-less but that’s not Lady’s case as that part of her is definitely Chihuahua. She does bark but only when she has a reason rather than just nuisance barking. She is active, in good health, vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and ready to go to a new home. She is not currently in a home with children but would do well with them as long as they are respectful and don’t poke or grab at her. Although just a bit timid at first, Lady warms up quickly and likes attention. Well mannered, she will sit for her dinner or a treat and only needs to be reminded not to jump when meeting someone. Lady gets along with other dogs of all shapes and sizes as she is currently in a home with several other dogs ranging from 10 to 85 pounds. She does walk pretty well on a leash but could use a little more practice. She would love to have a fenced yard as she likes to spend a lot of time outdoors, watching people, sniffing and running around. Lady can be a quite indoors dog but given the chance to be outdoors and play with other dogs she can be a really fast runner. If you do not have a fenced yard for her to run in, that’s ok provided that you are willing to take a trip to the dog park to let her burn off her excess energy. If left outside without enough exercise she will burn off her energy by digging so walking, running or teaching her to fetch would be in her new adopter’s best interest. Lady likes affection in the form of brushing, belly rubs and back scratches but is not real fond of being held or hugged. She is more of an affectionate dog on her terms as she will come to you and let you know when she wants loving. In the evening she likes nothing more than to curl up on the couch for a snooze and if allowed will snuggle in at the foot of your bed with you. If you would like to meet this dog please call Cindy at 708-655-9620. The adoption fee is $200.
