Hercules's Info...

Hercules's Story...
We have a standard grey male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. His name is Hercules. He came to NWI a few months ago, and his original owners informed us that he was born 12/7/2012. This makes him 4-5 years old. Unfortunately, his owners were unable to keep him, and his brother (who has since been adopted), and they ended up here. Hercules was actually adopted out and had a new family for a week or two, but someone in the household turned out to be allergic, so now he’s back here at the rescue with us.

Hercules is a sweet boy. He was housed with his brother until one day his brother started beating him up, so they were separated. He is fully recovered, as far as injuries from this, but when he was first beat up, he chewed on some of his fur for the first few days. His fur did grow back in, but then when he had to go on antibiotics for an infection, he started chewing again. Yet again, the fur is currently growing back in! Seems that when he’s stressed, he fur chews. This is primarily cosmetic, and we anticipate that he will typically have a nice full coat of fur. Now that he’s better, Hercules is again looking for a home of his own.

Hercules is a very sweet boy and does great when you are holding him and petting him. He does well with being held and petted and actually seems to enjoy being petted, and sits nicely when you are holding him. He doesn't bite.

Herc got along just fine with the brother. . . there was not a scratch on him. Because of this, he might (key word) get along with other chinchillas, but we have not tried this out yet, and we simply don't know. If you are curious about this, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

This chinchilla would make a good "first chinchilla" for someone who's never had chinchillas before.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet, fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire, and provide proof of cage. If you are unwilling to do these things, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Hercules would normally be $75, but due to our Fall Fiesta sale, adopt him for $65! Must be adopted or have deposit down by November 30th to qualify. Sorry, but our multi-chin discount does not apply while this sale is going on.

You can email us or call 219-789-0026 for more information or if you have any questions. If you call and there is no answer, please leave a message and we will get back to you.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Hercules, a Hammond Chinchilla was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chinchilla for sale in Hammond, or seeking a Chinchilla from a breeder in Hammond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hammond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hammond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chinchilla breeders who help with Chinchilla rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hammond paves the way for another one to be saved.
