My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Duke, an approximately 3 year old Black Lab/Pug mix. Duke weighs about 60 pounds and is knee high. He is black with a white patch on his chest, back paws that look like they've been dipped in white paint, a powder sugar dusting of white on the tip of his nose and chin, very soft ears and an adorable underbite. Duke came from southern IN after being found when a wellness check discovered his deceased owner, so Rover Rescue brought him north to find his new forever home.

After attending several events, it's been observed that Duke does well with most dogs but does try to assert his dominance with larger, younger male dogs. He ignores cats and ferrets and likes attention from all types of people, including young children and the wheel-chair bound.

Duke knows stairs, rides great in a car and LOVES people food enough to try and counter surf! He really likes going places and knows where to find his leash and dances in circles until the leash is on. Duke initially pulls on the leash and is strong for his size but he quickly settles down and jumps into the car when you say "In the car!". He loves sleeping in bed with his people and prefers a light blanket for cover, plays with balls and squeek toys and craves human attention and affection. Duke does not like being in a crate. Duke does get jealous when another dog gets attention and will put himself between the petter and pettee, so that HE can get the attention. He is beyond the chewing stage though will chew on any plastic "things" that are left on the floor but seems to be house trained. Currently, his foster family is trying to have Duke lose a few pounds (very difficult as he LOVES food, people food especially). He deserves another loving family that will treat him royally and that he can shower with licks of affection!

Duke is up-to-date on his vaccinations and is neutered. His adoption fee is $200.00. If you think that your family would be a good fit for Duke, please contact Margrit at 630.820.1584.
