If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Pre-Qualification Form.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Meet Harkins - such a sweet boy! He ended up at the local shelter after he was removed from a neglectful environment. Harkins is doing really well in his foster home, being crate and potty trained. He was a little shy at first but became affectionate and loyal in a short period of time.

We believe Harkins is about a year old, and he still has some puppy behaviors. He's playful and really enjoys romping with other dogs. The shelter listed him as a Labrador Retriever and we think there's got to be some Cattle Dog or other herding breed mixed in. Check out those ears! Plus Harkins likes to herd things, like scooters and lawn mowers, and sometimes people. Thankfully, Harkins responds well to a verbal correction and stops. Except for the lawn mower...that dastardly machine needs corralling. See his video for more on that!

Because of the herding instinct, Harkins may be tempted to chase cats and young kids who like to zip around. He's a completely sweet and trainable dog, but you'd have to be willing to work with him.

Harkins loves going for walks, although he's a bit of a trip hazard because he tends to dart back and forth sniffing everything. We're pretty certain he'd never been on a leash until he came into foster care, so he'll continue to get better with practice. And that about sums up this adorable guy...if you can appreciate some quirky behavior and will continue to work with him, Harkins will make the best companion ever!
