Sammie's Friends is a 501©(3) non-profit corporation.  We provide medical care for the animals at the Nevada County Shelter, making them adoptable, and we support other disadvantaged animals in Nevada County that would otherwise be euthanized to end their suffering.  Sammie's Friends also operates the Nevada County Animal Shelter.  WE ARE A NO KILL SHELTER!

And the sad story begins... Dear Yoda. This sweet old guy was brought in by Animal Control after his owner had passed away. They had found him in a dark garage with no signs of food or water. There were two resident dogs who were found inside guarding the man's body. Well, as it turns out, when the next of kin arrived they gladly took the two dogs but did not want Yoda, even though they had him since he was a 2 day old kitten. He was bottle fed by this family and lived with them for 17 years. It broke our hearts to hear this. So now, Yoda is here with us, living his life in the senior room at Sammie's. Yoda is a really sweet boy. He has bright eyes and for his age, his teeth are in good condition. If you have a fondness for older cats, please come and meet Yoda!
