About Tombstone Small Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

Tombstone Small Animal Shelter incorporated as a non-profit 501c3 in 1977. It is run by 100% volunteers, we have a board which consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and one member at large. We have 12 dog kennels which include an indoor area and an outdoor area. We have 7 spaces for cats. We have volunteers to walk the dogs, feed the cats and dogs 2 x a day, clean cat and dog spaces and the yard 2 x a day. We have 9 separate fenced yards in order to separate the dogs when playing who have personality differences. We do it because we want a first class facility that is respected. Because of our No-Kill rules (except for illness that is beyond treatment or an aggressive dog or cat which all avenues have been exhausted). We do have a facebook account attached to a First Giving donate button. We currently place all animals eligible for adoption on,, as well as list in two Tombstone Newspapers and in the Sierra Vista and a Cochise county Newspaper weekly. WE HAVE OUR OWN WEBSITE: check it out.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have adoptions at the shelter on Saturdays 2 - 4 or by appointment at the convenience of the volunteer and the people looking for an animal. We take animals to PetSmart in Sierra Vista most Saturdays when volunteers and animals are available. We are not at PetSmart on the first Saturday of the month.

Our Adoption Process...

We charge a $40 to adopt a cat or dog. We have the following criteria for placing animals: Dogs need a fenced yard, and are not to be chained or left outdoors 24 - 7. We encourage annual vet visits, and we do follow-up phone calls to see how the family and animal are doing. We don't adopt cats to homes where they will be outdoors or if they are to be de-clawed. All animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. Cats are given a felv test, these are all included in our adoption price.
