My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**PLEASE READ TO THE END FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION.**

Gertie couldn't be any cuter if she tried! She is 7 years old and weighs about 6 lbs. She is the silliest, quirkiest little thing! She had a dental and is missing most of her teeth, so her little tongue sticks out a bit most of the time, which just adds to her already considerable cuteness.

Gertie came to us from a hoarding situation and might be a little insecure and clingy with her person until she understands that she is home and won't be left in a crate out in the weather or abandoned again. She prefers not to share her person with other dogs, but at her foster's house she got comfortable with the other dogs once she learned the routine there and understood that no one would hurt her. She loves to snuggle and is happiest in her person's lap. She's so sweet and just wants to know that she is loved and safe. Gertie would be a perfect companion dog for an adult or retired person who is home most of the time, but she loves the kennel that she claimed as her own at her foster's house and happily hangs out there at night (because she doesn't like sharing the bed with the rest of the pack) and goes into her kennel to hang out and snuggle down under her blankets when her foster mom goes out during the day. She takes her time getting up and out in the morning, slowly emerging from under the covers, stretching and yawning, pulling her head back under the blanket, emerging again and rolling over to have her belly scratched, then FINALLY coming out for her morning trip out to potty and then breakfast.

When Gertie first came to her foster mom's house, she was really anxious and would tinkle a little when her mom reached to pick her up and sometimes peed on the floor because she didn't know how to ask to go out. Once she learned the routine and got used to the other dogs (and her foster mom learned to read Gertie's cues), everything fell into place and Gertie doesn't have accidents in the house any more. (She's very happy that she FINALLY got her foster mom trained so she doesn't have to be embarrassed by accidents!!)

We think Gertie needs and deserves a very special adopter to realize how wonderful she is and give her the love that she will give back hundredfold. Because of her history and anxiety, it takes her a little longer than most to adjust to a new environment, but her foster mom says she is absolutely worth it!!! If you think you might be that person, apply to adopt Gertie at www.texaschihuahuarescue.com.

If you would like to adopt Gertie, please fill out an application at www.TexasChihuahuaRescue.com. Her adoption fee, including vetting paperwork and microchip registration to adopter, is $200.
