Huggy is an affectionate, beautiful girl who happens to be a little different from most of the other dogs here; she's deaf. Our volunteers at APA! are teaching her sign language, which is a lovely way to communicate with a dog. There has to be a certain level of mutual attention and focus, and Huggy is more than willing to give it. Huggy is sure to greet all of her regular visitors at the shelter with a tiny bit of extra enthusiasm, so they know they are special. She loves being next to people she cares about, and she is always trying to rest a paw on your lap to ask for pets. She is a pretty mellow girl who is usually content to hang out, or maybe go on a casual stroll. She really seems to appreciate those who spend time with her, and she responds more to affection than she does to treats. The perfect home for Huggy is one where her owners are open to a new way of training a dog. She is already house trained, but needs to work on her leash and basic obedience. She gets along well with other dogs, and enjoys her time in play group. We have not observed her around kids or cats. Huggy has endless love to give. Though she loves meeting new friends all the time, she would be so happy to settle in with a forever family. Come meet her!
