Xena, Female, approx 8-9 years old, DSH Black and White
This is Xena, the sweetheart. I rescued her from a shopping plaza in Anaheim, near the freeway, approximately 6 weeks ago.
She had been dumped near a colony of feral cats, and stayed there for food. She walked right up to me, as if to ask for help. When she began eating, it became obvious that there may be something wrong. As I walked to the other cats, she followed me.
I went back the next day when it was light, and saw that her mouth did not close all the way, and that her purplish tongue was hanging out. I scooped her up and went immediately to the Veterinarian.
The Dr. said that she is approximately 8-9 years of age. All of her teeth had been extracted, and her jaw had been broken. She believed that her tongue may have been injured during the 'trauma' she went through. She did not say specifically that she had been abused, but leaned in that direction. There were also marks on the side of her body, where hair had been scrapped off in long streaks. A treatment of anti-biotics restored her tongue back to pink, and it now retracts almost to normal position. She has no problem eating wet food (No dry food for her).
The Dr. said that the jaw is stable and with the proper home environment, does not see any problems in the future with the jaw.
Xena is extremely affectionate and lovable.
Xena would do best in a low-activity, quiet home, as the only cat, and absolutely indoor only.
She has been fully vetted.
