Arrival Story: Waggin' Tails found Gizmo at Detroit Animal Care and Control. After meeting and playing with Gizmo, we knew we had to help this happy dog find a great new family.

Approximate Age/Weight: 1-2 years / 45 lbs. full grown.

Personality: Gizmo is a silly, playful little bundle of brindle happiness. We met him at the shelter where he won over one of our volunteers during a play session. Gizmo has a gentle mouth and takes treats gently and drops toys easily. He loves toys, eating meals out of Kongs and chewing on bully sticks. He does act puppyish and still sometimes mouths hands when playing (no biting, just mouthing) so we're working on that.

Gizmo has good house manners and hasn't played with anything other than his toys in the house. He took to crate training easily.

Gizmo is a fun dog who really enjoys time with people, is making good eye contact and checking in with his handler on walks. He is a leaner, and will curl into you for some pets or sit on your lap for snuggle time. Giz is adventurous and likes to explore and follows his nose wherever it goes. He wears a harness on walks. Gizmo is good on car rides but needs to be secured or he’ll be trying to drive. Gizmo is treat motivated and wants to learn and is super smart. He is more busy-body than couch potato and likes to know what is going on the house so he'll tag along when you do chores.

Forever Home: Gizmo could fit into many different home situations. He would likely knock over a little one with his bouncy, happy-go-lucky nature so older kids would be best. He is young and still needs a good amount of playtime.

About Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit rescue group. Our experienced and dedicated volunteers donate their spare time to rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and re-home all breeds of homeless dogs at risk of being euthanized or sold to research from area and rural kill shelters. We are supported solely through donations and fund-raising efforts. Our volunteers receive no monetary payment for their activities. Instead, their reward is the knowledge that a dog's life has been saved that otherwise would have been lost.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We typically show every Saturday from 12-3 p.m. (please see our website for exact location details). We often have other special events that are listed on our website, as well. Potential adopters can also schedule meetings with the individual dog's foster parent since all of our dogs are in fosters homes and we do not own a shelter.

Our Adoption Process...

We utilize an application process because we have worked hard at nurturing and working with the animals in our care. In order to ensure that these formerly abandoned, neglected and abused animals never find themselves in the shelter/rescue system again, we screen applicants so that the applicant is matched to an animal that is suited to the applicant's lifestyle.

It is our job at Waggin’ Tails not only to find new homes for our animals but to ensure these animals never have an opportunity to breed again. All of Waggin’ Tails dogs will be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption unless the dog is not of age and/or the dog has a medical condition that would prohibit sterilization at the time of adoption. Dogs under 6 months of age and dogs that cannot be sterlilized due to a medical condition will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract which means the adopter must agree to have the dog sterilized by a specified date.

Adoption Fees
Adult Dogs: $225
Small Breed Dogs: $275
Senior Dogs: $125
Puppies (under 6 months): $250 + $50 refundable Spay/Neuter Deposit

What does the adoption fee Include?
The adoption fees above cover all age-appropriate vaccines; heartworm/fecal test; spay/neuter (unless otherwise stated); and microchipping. When necessary, the dogs have blood panels, dentals, and professional grooming as well. In other words, we do everything necessary for the dog when they come into our care.
