Meet Nieve: I am a gorgeous Pointer/Hound mix with light brown spots and weigh around 31 lbs. Nieve means snow in Spanish; they chose that name because they thought I looked like a snow angel when they saw me at the shelter. I am a gentle, petite little lady. The intake vet estimated that I am around 3 years old, but my two fosters think I am much younger, possibly a little over 1 year old. I led a rough life before Angel’s Among Us rescued me on my very last day. I was found as a stray, am heartworm positive and had two BB pellets in my face. This caused me to be very timid and shy. But, my fosters have taken great care of me and now I love to be petted and snuggle up for TV time; I even wag my tail and go up to people for love and attention. I love other dogs, they are my favorite thing! I am not an alpha dog, so if another dog tells me to back off the toys, I will respect that. However, I would really like another dog to play with. Playing is my favorite, that and getting petted by my people. I don’t think I would do well without a dog friend; I would be too lonely. My foster mommy is trying to figure out the best way to describe my energy level. With people I am low to medium energy, depending on if you get on the floor to play with me. With other dogs I am medium energy that can go up to high energy if we’re having fun playing. But then I go back down to low energy and sleep. I a mostly medium to low energy, my foster mommy has taught me that medium/high energy isn’t the best lady manners in the house. That’s fine; I like to make people happy.
Because I had a rough start, I didn’t really have any doggy manners in the house. Because I had to scrounge for everything, I didn’t know not to counter surf. My foster mommy is teaching me proper lady manners. I really like living inside; I have learned very quickly and am now almost completely house trained. I would prefer to not be in a crate, but if you put me in one, I am so quiet you don’t even know I am there. I also walk well on the leash. I am a Pointer mix, so when I walk on the leash, it is nose to the ground with a happy tail! I will need someone to leash walk me or a well maintained fence. When my nose gets to the ground I lose track of myself, I could sniff my way right under a fence and not know what happened. I am not a bad girl, just curious about every scent I can find. I love to go on long, leisurely walks. I don’t bark a lot, but if I hear a dog on the TV, I will respond. My foster family thinks it’s funny. When someone drives up to the house, I let my people know. I am a good watch dog, but I’m so gentle, I wouldn’t harm a flea. I never make noise without a reason.
I get along with every person, child and dog I have met. I haven’t met any cats yet. I have been spayed and am currently going through my heartworm treatment. Fortunately, I only have a mild case. I am available for pre-adoption and will be ready to go to my forever home at the beginning to middle of January. Would you like to come and meet me?
