Sassy is one of 13 adult dogs rescued from a hoarder. She was living in an outdoor pen with her 4 siblings and mom Phoebe. All of the dogs suffered extreme neglect and starvation. The dogs had very little human companionship. Sassy and her 4 siblings were born in the pen and had to be caught with nets. They are now in foster care trying to be socialized. The owner had approx. 30 dogs on the property. They were all small mixed breeds, Chihuahua, JRT, Corgi, Fox Terrier, Shih-Tzu. The pen had one dog house for shelter and no gate to access them. Our rescue partners had to climb into the pen with a pool ladder to rescue them. The owner had no running water and was not giving them water or food on a regular basis. Sassy and her mom both had recently given birth and their pups were outside on a filthy blanket. They were both very underweight, dehydrated and absolutely covered in fleas. The owner allowed our rescue partners to take them and some of the other dogs on the property but she can't part with any of the dogs in her house and would not allow rescuers into her home. It broke our hearts to leave any dog there. We are guessing that Sassy is approx. 1 yr. old as her owner couldn't remember her age and she was never named. Sassy has a long way to go. Her foster mom has been able to leash train her however getting the leash on and off is still a struggle, but she loves going for walks. She enjoys taking treats from her hand but she still can not pet her. Sassy's puppies are being raised with lots of kids, cats and other dogs. UPDATE: Sassy is now in the adoption center and available to be seen. We are still working on socializing her.
