Sassy was living in an outdoor pen with 10 other young little dogs with very little human companionship. Her owner a hoarder has approximently 30 dogs indoors all small mixed breeds, Chihuahua, JRT, Corgi, Rat Terrier. Sassy looks to have more chihuahua in her mix. She moved all the older puppies outdoors to a pen with no gate to access them. Our rescue partner had to climb into the pen with a pool ladder to help them. The owner had no running water and was not giving them water or food on a regular basis. Animal control was called but the dogs had food water and shelter in one dog house so they did nothing to help the poor dogs. Sassy and Phoebe both had recently given birth and their pups were outside on a filthy blanket. Both girls were underweight, dehydrated and absolutely covered in fleas. You could count every bone on Sassy's body. Since she was much smaller then the other dogs she must have had a hard time fighting for food. The owner allowed our rescue partner to take them and is still deciding if she can part with the others. It broke all of our hearts to have to leave the other dogs but our rescue partner will not give up and is going to the house daily to feed and water and socialize the dogs. Sassy is very scared and will nip if you move to quickly to pet her. She is really starting to come around with the people she knows. With love and patience she will learn to trust people again and will adjust to a home once she has weaned her puppies. Since her rescue she has already gained weight and is learning how a dog is supposed to be treated.
