My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ROCKS is a 6 year old neutered chocolate male Lab who weighs 78 pounds. Rocks was a stray to the shelter. He had an unregistered chip and nobody came to claim him. He is a gorgeous chocolate lab who is super sweet and friendly. Rocks is energetic and loves to chase a Frisbee. He is very strong and needs to improve his leash skills so will benefit from an EZ Walk Harness. Rocks is smart and quickly figured out how to open a gate with his nose. His new owners will need to SECURE GATE LATCHES. He is good with other dogs and enjoys their company. His local foster said they would find him laying beside the fence to be close to the neighbor's dog. Rocks is crate trained but doesn’t especially like it. He’ll bark for a bit but then settles down and is getting used to it. His local foster said he seems to be housebroken because he has not messed in the house at all, is not destructive, and is perfectly content to just hang out with his humans. Rocks enjoys being loved on and appreciates attention, especially belly rubs! Rocks is missing some fur and has dry, flaky skin. This may be due to flea dermatitis and/or poor nutrition because he has improved with a bath, flea preventative, and quality grain-free food. He loved his bath and was very good for his shots and handling. Cats are unknown. Rocks is from the country with no exposure to big cities. Placement is limited to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. There is no history of Rocks living with children so he is approved for children ages 10 +.

Update: Rocks is such a good boy! While he patiently waits for his forever home he is occupying himself playing with his foster sisters and learning to fetch tennis balls. Currently, his favorite game is tug, especially if one of the dogs will play with him. He especially likes the fall weather and loves lying down in piles of leaves to chew on a bone or a toy. All in all a very easy going guy. He gets along great with both the resident labs and sleeps side by side with one of them in foster mom and dad's bed. Rocks is a silly goofy boy who makes the funniest deep grumbly noises when he's happy. Walks very nicely with an easy walk harness and will do anything you ask of him in exchange for a bite of chicken. Even though he can see onto the counters and table tops, he has excellent manners and does not help himself to anything.

Update:: This handsome six year old boy is looking for someone to call his very own. Rocks is house trained and has very good house manners. He gets along well with the three resident dogs during the day and will nap and then play with toys (as evidenced by foster mom's spy camera). At night, Rocks will sleep in his dog bed or curl up on the human bed if invited up. Rocks is a strong boy and does best with an Easy-Walk harness on walks. He may bark a bit at first when foster mom leaves, but settles quickly, loves people and enjoys other dogs, so he may do fine living in a townhome as long as he gets the right amount of exercise.

Update: Rocks is such a sweet boy! He is housetrained and proved he doesn't need the crate by napping with his canine foster siblings all day while foster mom was gone. He enjoyed a visit to school and dipped a toe in the Gulf of Mexico while foster mom worked. He gets along nicely with the resident pack members and responds well to correction when he gets a bit excited. He sleeps through the night, and is going to make some family very happy.
